GIF Player

The main thing this application can do is play GIF files. Open a GIF animation and the GIF Player application will, as expected, play it. On top of that, GIF Player can extract frames from GIFs and save them as JPG, PNG of BMP.

To get started with GIF Player, you will have to complete a standard installation procedure. This means you’ll first have to download and run an installer, and then you’ll have to follow the simple instructions presented onscreen by a setup wizard. Said wizard will let you choose where to install GIF Player, will ask you if you want to create a desktop shortcut for GIF Player, and will ask you if you want to associate GIF files with GIF Player.

The interface is just what you would expect from a player type application: the image at the top, playback controls down at the bottom. Right click anywhere on the interface to bring up a context menu that, among other things, lets you zoom in, set it so the GIF animation fits the window, and go full screen.

The default action assigned to the Previous and Next buttons is to move from one GIF file to another. So if you have a folder full of GIF animations and you open one of them, the Previous and Next buttons will allow you to watch all the GIFs from that folder. Go to the Settings menu and you can set it so the Previous and Next buttons will move from one GIF frame to another. This will come in handy if you want to find a certain frame and extract it.

GIF Player is shareware. You can use it for free for a trial period of 10 days. Once this trial period expires, you’ll have to purchase a license to keep using the application.
